Job summary

Indian Health Service is seeking an experienced Expanded Function Dental Assistant to join our team. You will assist chairside, perform restorative and radiographic procedures, ensure infection control, and educate patients while delivering culturally respectful care to American Indian and Alaska Native communities.

You will handle radiographic procedures, prepare materials and instruments, and maintain accurate treatment records to support high-quality oral health outcomes.

Qualifications

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-04 (chairside assistance, restorations, radiographs, infection control).
• Completed a full 4-year dental assistant or dental hygiene program including at least 24 semester hours in radiation physics and related courses.
• Combination of Education and Experience: meets 100% of qualification requirements.

Responsibilities

• Restores teeth after preparation.
• Provides chairside assisting and anticipates dentist's needs for instruments and materials.
• Performs intra-oral procedures such as prophylaxis, sealants, temporary fillings, crowns.
• Performs radiological procedures and dental lab tasks: pours models, casts, trays, bite rims.
• Receives and prepares patients; maintains records of appointments, examinations, treatment, and supplies.
