Job summary

The Indian Health Service is seeking an experienced Expanded Function Dental Assistant to support chairside functions, radiography, infection control, and patient education in American Indian and Alaska Native communities.

You will assist dentists, restore teeth, perform intra-oral procedures, radiographs, and manage patient records while upholding high standards of culturally respectful care.

Qualifications

• Resume must demonstrate sufficient experience and/or education to perform duties.
• Education: complete a full 4-year course of study in dental assistant or dental hygiene program including at least 24 semester hours in radiation physics and related courses.
• Combination of education and experience: meets 100% of qualification requirements.

Responsibilities

• Restores teeth after preparation is completed.
• Provide chairside assisting and anticipate dentist's needs and prepare materials/equipment.
• Perform intra-oral procedures such as prophylaxis, sealants, temporary restorations, and cements; operate related tools.
• Perform radiological procedures and dental lab work: pours/trims models, fabricates trays, mounts casts, pours impressions.
• Receive and prepare patients for treatments and maintain records of appointments, exams, treatments, and supplies.
