Job summary

Indian Health Service is seeking an experienced Expanded Function Dental Assistant to support chairside procedures and radiography while delivering culturally respectful care to American Indian and Alaska Native communities. The role includes restorative functions, infection control, and patient education to improve oral health outcomes.

This position requires a current radiography certification and compliance with federal background and identity verification requirements.

Qualifications

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-04 including chairside assisting and radiographs.
• Completed a full 4-year program in dental assisting or dental hygiene with radiation physics coursework.
• Combination of education and experience may meet 100% of requirements.
• Current radiology certification and safety training are required.

Responsibilities

• Restores teeth after preparation is completed.
• Provide chairside assisting and anticipate dentist's needs for instruments and materials.
• Perform intra-oral procedures such as prophylaxis, sealants, temporary fillings, and cement crowns.
• Perform radiological procedures and dental lab duties: pours, trims models, and mounts casts.
• Prepare patients for treatment and maintain treatment and appointment records.
