Job summary

Elastic is hiring a VP of Threat Research to own the research agenda for what our platform detects, prevents, and publishes. You will serve as the public voice, shaping direction through expertise, judgment, and influence, reporting to the GM of Elastic Security.

This senior IC role sets priorities across detection engineering, threat research, endpoint protections, and security ML, while partnering with delivery leaders to execute and lead engagements with customers and industry audiences.

Qualifications

• Deep credibility in threat research, detection engineering, endpoint security, or security ML.
• Hands-on technical experience doing the work yourself, not only leading teams.
• Senior IC leadership with technical depth and judgment.
• Strong public communication skills and enthusiasm for customer engagement.
• Belief in open, transparent security and publishing detections and research.
• Judgment to lead through influence, expertise, and vision.
• Experience translating strategy into clear security priorities.

Responsibilities

• Define the research and detection agenda across SIEM, endpoint, threat research, and security ML.
• Set the quality bar for what Elastic detects, prevents, and publishes.
• Decide where to invest next across malware detection, ransomware, memory protections, and AI-driven security.
• Shape publishing strategy for Elastic Security Labs, including original research and conference content.
• Act as the external face with customers, analysts, press, and the security community.
• Partner with engineering, product, and delivery to ship protections from research priorities.
• Lead on open security, including public detections and explainable AI protections.
