Job summary

Symetra seeks an AVP, Deputy Chief Underwriter to guide strategy for Individual Life Underwriting and consult on complex, high-face-amount cases. You will drive growth through Large Case underwriting and oversee the HNWFN program, partnering across functions to balance risk, experience, and profitability.

You will mentor future leaders, promote underwriting excellence, and contribute to Symetra's Win Smart philosophy from Bellevue, WA, with occasional travel as needed.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of progressive life insurance underwriting experience with large-face-amount cases.
• Proven leadership in developing underwriting talent and high-performing teams.
• Expertise in mortality, financial underwriting, and complex risk selection.
• Experience with Large Case and advanced market solutions; travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for Individual Life Underwriting and advise the Chief Underwriter.
• Lead and evolve Large Case underwriting strategy and oversee HNWFN programs.
• Mentor underwriting leaders and drive quality, governance, and continuous improvement.
