Job summary

Town of Garner is seeking an Assistant Town Manager to join its senior leadership team in Garner, NC. This executive will partner with the Town Manager, staff, and Council to advance the community’s strategic priorities and growth management.

The role requires a track record in municipal management, collaboration across departments, and strong financial planning abilities to support the Town’s ambitious goals and budget programs.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5-7 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in municipal management.
• Master’s degree in public administration, business, or related area, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience at department director level or above preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead senior management team and oversee portfolios including parks, recreation, cultural resources, public works, communications, IT, and strategic initiatives.
• Conduct assessments of town operations and organize improvements in policies, procedures, and organizational structure.
• Prepare reports and correspondence for Town Manager and Town Council to express objectives and goals.
• Participate in Budget Team to develop and manage the annual budget and CIP.
• Identify grant opportunities to advance fiscal goals and support community priorities.
