Job summary

UMass Amherst's Auxiliary Enterprises Central Bakery is seeking a Baker II to prepare a variety of baked goods, decorate cakes, and ensure quality. The Baker II will read recipes, measure ingredients, supervise training, and maintain sanitation standards in a high-volume campus bakery setting.

The role requires early-morning shifts, on-site work, and adherence to safety practices while delivering consistent product quality for campus facilities and events.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of full-time or equivalent baking experience in a bakery, hotel, restaurant, or related food service.
• Certified as a food handler within 6 months of hire (ServSafe or equivalent).
• Ability to read weights and measure tables and interpret recipes precisely.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions clearly and accurately.
• Knowledge of baking safety practices and sanitation standards.

Responsibilities

• Prepare baked goods by assembling ingredients and equipment, weighing ingredients, and following recipes.
• Decorate cakes, cupcakes, and pastries with icing and fillings.
• Read and follow recipes and batch production as directed.
• Provide on-the-job training to staff to transfer baking skills.
