Placements24 is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee extensive mining and minerals processing operations in Welkom, Free State. The role demands strategic leadership to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of production activities.

You will manage large teams, optimize output, and implement best practices in operations management with a strong emphasis on safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
• Master's degree or MBA is a plus.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in operations management within mining/minerals processing.
• Proven track record of managing large operational teams and complex processing plants.
• Strong understanding of mining methods, mineral processing techniques, and equipment.
• Leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience with financial management and budget control.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operational activities within mining and minerals processing facilities.
• Develop and implement operational plans to meet production targets and quality standards.
• Lead a diverse workforce with focus on safety, engagement, and performance.
• Enforce health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
• Monitor costs and identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
• Manage relationships with suppliers, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with industry regulations and statutory requirements.
• Drive continuous improvement using Lean or Six Sigma methodologies.
• Oversee maintenance and asset management to ensure plant reliability.
• Prepare operational reports and present performance data to senior management.
