Job summary

Michels Power, Inc. in Otsego, MN seeks a General Manager – Substation & BESS to lead regional Substation and Battery Energy Storage System projects, focusing on safety, profitability, and client satisfaction.

You will partner with regional leaders to set strategic goals, drive operational excellence, and develop high‑performing teams while delivering reliable grid solutions for utilities and energy developers across North America.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business and 10+ years of related experience.
Proven leadership experience managing substation, utility, battery energy storage (BESS), renewable energy, power delivery, or EPC construction operations.
Proven leadership of regional operations, project portfolios, and multidisciplinary teams.
Strong understanding of substation construction, battery energy storage systems, project delivery methodologies, resource planning, and risk management.
Proven financial acumen with experience managing budgets, forecasting, cash flow, backlog, profitability, and operational performance.

Responsibilities

Direct and oversee regional Substation and BESS operations, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
Establish and execute strategic initiatives with senior leadership.
Provide leadership to Regional Managers, Project Managers, and operational teams.
Ensure projects are safe, efficient, and profitable with high quality and customer satisfaction.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with utility, renewable energy, and infrastructure customers.
Lead preconstruction efforts and RFP pursuits for substation and BESS projects.
Forecast labor, equipment, and resource requirements regionally.
Travel as required and uphold a strong safety culture.
