Job summary

Pitt Ohio is seeking a visionary Vice President of Safety & Risk Management to lead safety strategy, risk management, and insurance programs from our Corporate Office in the Strip District of Pittsburgh, PA. You will shape safety culture, oversee FMCSA/DOT/OSHA compliance, and drive enterprise-wide risk initiatives across drivers, terminals, and support functions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in transportation safety, fleet safety, risk management, claims management, or related operational leadership.
• Minimum of 5 years of senior leadership experience within trucking, transportation, logistics, or the Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) industry.
• Proven ability to reduce accident frequency, injury rates, claims costs, insurance expense, and overall risk exposure.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the company’s overall safety, fleet safety, and risk management strategy.
• Lead programs that promote a strong culture of safety for drivers, dock employees, maintenance personnel, and leadership.
• Oversee policies and practices for safe LTL operations including pickup, linehaul, dock, and terminal operations.
• Monitor compliance with FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, EPA, and state/local safety requirements.
• Direct accident prevention initiatives and analyze safety performance metrics.
• Oversee investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action plans.
• Manage driver qualifications, safety training, and ongoing compliance programs.
• Partner with Operations, HR, Legal, and Terminal Leadership to identify risk exposures.
• Establish safety goals, scorecards, audits, and KPIs to measure performance.
• Lead terminal safety audits, inspections, and regulatory readiness reviews.
• Direct management of workers’ compensation, auto, cargo, general, and property insurance claims.
• Lead enterprise risk management to identify and mitigate risks.
• Manage relationships with brokers, carriers, and risk consultants.
• Lead insurance renewals, underwriting submissions, and loss reviews.
• Analyze loss runs and insurance trends to reduce total cost of risk.
• Prepare executive reports on safety and insurance program effectiveness.
