Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking an Associate Chief of Staff for Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Crescenz VA Medical Center in Philadelphia.

The role directs all pathology and laboratory activities, ensuring high‑quality, cost‑effective services, and regulatory compliance across departments. Responsibilities include policy development, budget oversight, staff mentorship, and clinical laboratory leadership, with a focus on research collaboration and multidisciplinary

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree from an school approved by VA for the year completed
• Current full and unrestricted medical license in a US state/DC
• Residency in an accredited core pathology training program
• Board certification in AP and/or CP preferred for faculty roles

Responsibilities

• Lead the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service at the VA Medical Center
• Ensure high‑quality, cost‑effective diagnostic services across surgical pathology, cytopathology, hematopathology and clinical labs
• Develop and implement policies, supervise staff, and manage budgets
• Ensure compliance with VA, CAP, CLIA and other regulatory standards
• Collaborate with Research Service to promote VA research activities
• Lead quality assurance programs and drive continuous improvement
• Educate residents, fellows, students, and staff; oversee clinical education initiatives
