Job summary

VA San Diego Healthcare System seeks an experienced physician to serve as Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The role oversees CLIA Laboratory Director responsibilities, PALMS leadership, and all laboratory testing across the VA facility to ensure quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

The position emphasizes administration, medical directorship, and coordination with the Network Chief to optimize patient care and research activities within the path and lab services.

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Unrestricted U.S. Medical License required.
• Fellowship from ACGME or AOA is required.
• Board Certification in the specialty is required.

Responsibilities

• Serve as CLIA Laboratory Director and medical director for PALMS.
• Oversee all laboratory testing and ensure regulatory compliance across VA labs.
• Lead patient care, administration, education and research functions.
• Participate in quality reviews (OPPE, FPPE, QM program) and multidisciplinary conferences.
• Direct PALMS and outreach functions to align with facility mission.
