Job summary

University of California, Berkeley is seeking an Associate Vice Chancellor for Government & Community Relations to act as a senior strategic advisor and relationship manager. You will guide government and community engagement across local, state, federal, and Tribal entities, supporting the Chancellor and campus leadership with policy analysis, advocacy strategies, and high-level advisory services.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of local, state, federal, and/or Tribal governmental structures and processes.
• Experience developing and implementing strategic government or public affairs initiatives.
• Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience preparing executive-level briefings and strategic communications.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements government relations strategies aligning with institutional priorities.
• Leads a team representing the University before government bodies and community organizations.
• Monitors policy developments affecting higher education and advises campus leadership.
• Builds relationships with officials, agencies, Tribal leaders, and advocacy groups.
• Coordinates institutional advocacy on legislative, budgetary, and regulatory matters.
• Collaborates with UCOP Government Relations on relevant issues.
• Identifies funding opportunities and strategic partnerships for the University.
• Prepares briefing materials, talking points, and policy recommendations for senior leadership.
