Job summary

UCLA Strategic Communications seeks an Associate Director of Executive Communications to develop and implement high-visibility communications for the Chancellor, EVP/Provost, and campus leaders. The role demands independent management of complex projects, strategic messaging, and stakeholder engagement across internal and external audiences.

The ideal candidate translates complex information into clear language, captures the voice of senior leaders, and excels in research, editing, and synthesis

Qualifications

• 6-8+ years progressively responsible experience in strategic communications at a large organization
• Experience advising senior executives on communications strategy and reputation management
• Ability to translate complex information into clear messages for varied audiences
• Collaborate with senior leadership to identify communication needs and execute programs
• Translate leaders' initiatives into inspiring messaging; research and organize data for speeches/messages
• Commitment to inclusive excellence in a diverse environment
• Strong knowledge of technology and new media capabilities
• Experience maintaining internal communications structures in a complex organization
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines; strong writing on deadline
• Familiarity with UC/UCLA policies and governance preferred (UC background)

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement executive communications for the Chancellor and campus leaders
• Provide strategic counsel on messaging, positioning, and reputation management
• Translate complex information into concise, memorable messaging for broad audiences
• Collaborate with senior leadership and staff to identify communication needs and deliver programs
• Research, collect, and organize data to create speeches and messages
• Navigate a large, complex organization with sensitivity and discretion
