Job summary

Michigan Technological University is seeking an Associate Vice President for Auxiliary and Business Services (AVPABS) to provide strategic and operational leadership for a portfolio of self‑operated and contracted units that support the campus experience.

This role drives financial performance, oversees budget development and forecasting, leads contract governance and vendor relations, and mentors a high‑performing senior leadership team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, hospitality management, higher education administration, or a related field.
• Significant senior leadership experience in auxiliary services or complex multi‑unit operations.
• Experience with budgeting, pricing strategies, and contract governance.

Responsibilities

• Provides strategic oversight and executive leadership for a portfolio of self‑operated and contracted auxiliary and business service units, ensuring financial sustainability and alignment with institutional priorities.
• Drives financial performance across the division, including budget development, long‑range forecasting, pricing strategy, and executive reporting to senior leadership.
• Leads contract strategy and vendor governance for major auxiliary agreements; ensures contractual, financial, and service expectations are met.
• Directs capital planning and deferred maintenance priorities, coordinating with Facilities Management on projects.
• Cultivates leadership excellence by coaching and mentoring, building a high‑performing senior leadership team of 5 direct reports.
