Job summary

The King County Council seeks an Inspector General to lead an independent agency within the legislative branch, providing high‑level oversight of fraud, waste, abuse, irregularities, and procurement integrity across County programs. Appointed for five years with renewal, the IG reports to the Council and collaborates with the Ombuds, Auditor, and other oversight bodies to safeguard public

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in law or public administration required.
  • Minimum of 10 years investigations, audits, or accountability experience.
  • Leadership experience managing professional staff or major programs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead independent investigations into fraud, waste, abuse, and procurement misconduct.
  • Establish and manage a fraud hotline and intake system for concerns from employees, vendors, and the public.
  • Conduct targeted inspections across County contracts, grants, procurements, and programs.
  • Exercise subpoena power and coordinate referrals to authorities as needed.
  • Develop internal policies, case management standards, and annual work plans for the office.
  • Manage budgets, contracts, staff, and reporting to the King County Council.
  • Engage with external oversight partners to ensure integrity and accountability.
