Job summary

City of New York's Department of Transportation seeks the Chief Operations Officer for the Staten Island Ferry and Deputy Commissioner. You will provide executive leadership for safe, efficient operation and maintenance of vessels, terminals, and facilities, overseeing 600+ staff and a multi-year capital plan.

You will coordinate with the Commissioner, ensure ISM compliance, regulate private ferry operators, and drive safety, engineering, and operations across the system, including 24/7 response

Qualifications

  • Degree required in operations management, business, marine fields or related discipline.
  • Maritime industry experience may substitute degree per policy.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the highest authority for SMS in administration, engineering, operations and safety.
  • Be available 24/7 to respond to issues and emergencies.
  • Oversee safety and environmental policy implementation.
  • Manage senior functional-area leaders in customer relations and service.
  • Ensure safe and efficient service across Staten Island Ferry system per laws and ISM.
  • Plan and execute new technology for the ferry including replacement vessels.
  • Represent the agency to other government agencies, unions and stakeholders.
