Job summary

The New York City Department of Transportation seeks a Chief Operations Officer for the Staten Island Ferry and Deputy Commissioner of the Ferry Division. You will provide executive leadership for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of vessels, terminals and facilities, overseeing over 600 employees and a multi-year budget.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in operations management, business management, marine transportation, nautical science, marine engineering, or related discipline.
  • Experience leading large maritime or transportation operations is required.
  • Knowledge of Safety Management Systems and regulatory compliance is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide executive leadership for safe and efficient operation and maintenance of Staten Island Ferry vessels, terminals and facilities.
  • Direct management of 600+ employees and a multi-year capital and expense budget.
  • Oversee SMS implementation per ISM Code and regulate private ferry operations.
  • Respond to incidents 24/7 and collaborate with regulators and stakeholders.
