Job summary

New York City Department of Transportation seeks a Deputy Commissioner (Transport - Staten Island Ferry) to provide executive leadership for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the Staten Island Ferry vessels, terminals and facilities. Oversees 600+ employees and a multi-million dollar budget, ensuring compliance with ISM and NYC regulations.

Qualifications

Baccalaureate or higher degree in operations management, business management, marine transportation, nautical science, marine engineering, or related discipline.
Strong background in maritime management including operations, engineering, maintenance and repair, personnel management and regulatory issues.
Experience with Safety Management Systems (ISM) and regulatory compliance is preferred.

Responsibilities

Serve as the highest level of authority with the Safety Management System (SMS) in administration, engineering, operations and safety.
Be available to respond 24/7 to issues and emergencies.
Oversee the Staten Island Ferry system to ensure safe and effective operation in accordance with laws and regulations.
Lead and manage a large workforce, including mariners, and oversee capital and operating budgets.
