Job summary

Vanderbilt University is seeking an Executive Director of Research Development and Support (RDS) to shape and execute an institution-wide strategy for advancing research development. You will partner with leadership and faculty to grow extramural funding from federal, state, industry, and foundations, while guiding proposal development and limited submissions.

The role requires a Master’s degree (PhD preferred) and at least 15 years of leadership experience in a major research environment.

Qualifications

• Fifteen years of relevant experience at a top research university, foundation, or comparably complex organization.
• Demonstrated managerial and leadership talent with the ability to lead and motivate others.
• Ability to build trusted relationships with federal and corporate sponsors, donors, and partners.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute the University-wide strategic vision for research development services.
• Proactively research, identify, and cultivate external funding opportunities and relationships.
• Develop strategic plans for federal, state, foundation, and private funding of grand challenges.
• Provide strategic leadership and implement best practices to achieve RDS goals.
• Lead sponsor relations activities, outreach, proposal development, and donor visits.
• Collaborate with faculty to identify opportunities and coordinate multi-institution proposals.
