Job summary

Mercy St. Louis Hospital is seeking an experienced Executive Director of Surgical Services to provide leadership oversight for surgical operations within our Level I Trauma and Burn Center.

This role drives high-quality, efficient, patient-centered surgical services through collaborative leadership and sound operational management. You will partner with physician leaders, caregivers, and hospital leadership to advance performance, quality, and patient outcomes while managing fiscal

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field (RN/BSN preferred).
• Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience in the Perioperative space.
• Master’s degree strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with caregivers, physicians, and leadership across departments.
• Collaborate with management teams to achieve departmental goals and organizational priorities.
• Serve as a resource for ancillary areas utilizing comparable services, equipment, or procedures.
• Maintain awareness of professional standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices at local, state, and national levels.
• Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures aligned with regulatory standards and departmental workflows.
• Establish and oversee inventory management systems for surgical supplies and instrumentation, ensuring appropriate par levels, turnaround times, and communication regarding equipment availability.
• Lead human resource functions including interviewing, hiring, and supporting caregiver development.
• Meet with vendors to evaluate product lines, recommend alternatives, and support cost-containment initiatives.
• Participate in contract negotiations, implementation, and ongoing compliance.
• Collaborate closely with surgeons and surgical teams to ensure smooth transitions related to products, equipment, and procedural changes.
• Analyze financial and operational reports to support informed business decisions and cost-benefit evaluations.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in a related field (RN/BSN preferred)
