Job summary

Alpha Structural, Inc. seeks a Director of Planning and Engineering to lead the structural engineering operations for Southern California.

You will oversee engineering, drafting, and permitting, directing a skilled team to keep projects on schedule and deliver technically sound solutions. Qualified candidates hold an active California SE license, a civil/structural engineering degree, 10+ years in design, and 5+ years in leadership.

Qualifications

• Active California SE license.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or Architecture.
• 10+ years of experience in structural engineering design and review.
• 5+ years in engineering leadership or executive management.
• 5+ years of experience managing plan check submittals, permitting, and engineering workflows.
• Strong knowledge of CBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, NDS and related standards.
• Hands-on proficiency with AutoCAD or Revit for oversight.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily engineering, drafting, and plan permitting operations to keep projects on schedule.
• Review and approve structural calculations, plans, redlines, and submittals.
• Mentor engineers, drafters, and permitting personnel to maintain technical excellence.
• Perform structural observations and site visits to resolve field revisions.
• Direct departmental metrics, production schedules, engineering budgets, and revenue targets.
• Collaborate with production, project management, and sales to align workflow.
