Job summary

Alpha Structural, Inc. seeks a Director of Planning and Engineering to lead planning, engineering, drafting, and permitting operations for Southern California's premier design-build firm.

You will direct high-stakes engineering projects, mentor a skilled technical team, and ensure technical excellence and timely delivery of structural solutions. You will oversee daily operations, review structural calculations and plans, and drive departmental budgets and performance metrics while collaborating

Qualifications

• Active California Structural Engineer (SE) license.
• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Civil, Structural Engineering or Architecture.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in structural engineering design and review.
• Minimum of 5 years in an engineering leadership or executive management role.
• Minimum of 5 years managing plan check submittals, permitting, and engineering workflows.
• Strong knowledge of CBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, NDS and engineering standards.
• Hands-on proficiency using AutoCAD or Revit for oversight.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily engineering, drafting, and plan permitting operations to keep projects on schedule.
• Review and approve structural calculations, plans, redlines, and submittals.
• Mentor engineers, drafters, and permitting staff to uphold technical excellence.
• Perform structural observations and site visits to resolve field revisions.

The Opportunity

You will serve as an executive leader overseeing engineering, drafting, and permitting operations for Southern California's premier design-build firm. This role allows you to direct high-stakes engineering projects while driving continuous operational efficiency and mentoring a skilled technical team. You will directly shape the success, technical accuracy, and execution of long-lasting structural solutions.

How You Will Make An Impact

• Lead and manage all daily engineering, drafting, and plan permitting operations to keep projects on schedule.
• Review and approve structural calculations, engineering plans, redlines, and technical submittals.

• Strong knowledge of California Building Code (CBC), ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, NDS, and engineering standards.
• Hands-on proficiency using AutoCAD or Revit software for technical oversight.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

• Extensive experience designing structural systems across concrete, steel, wood, masonry, and foundation systems.
• Proven track record leading multi-departmental operations within a high-volume design-build environment.
