Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Director of Hospital-Based Services to lead Emergency Medicine, Hospital Medicine, Anesthesia & Critical Care.

This role drives strategic direction, operational performance, and financial management across hospital-based service lines, partnering with multidisciplinary teams to improve quality, patient experience, workforce engagement, and fiscal stewardship.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, or a related field required.
• Master's degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA), Business Administration (MBA), or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Direct the operations of assigned hospital-based service departments to achieve organizational, operational, quality, and patient experience goals.
• Establish departmental priorities, performance expectations, and operational standards.
• Develop and maintain departmental policies and procedures.
• Develop, implement, and monitor operational and strategic initiatives aligned with organizational objectives.
• Direct departmental operating and capital budgets, ensuring fiscal stewardship.
• Analyze operational and financial performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Lead projects that enhance efficiency, productivity, and service delivery.
• Collaborate with clinical and operational leaders to standardize workflows and improve patient outcomes.
• Utilize performance data to drive operational decisions and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards.
• Serve as the primary liaison between departments and executive leadership.
• Partner with physicians, nursing leadership, finance, HR, and support services to achieve goals.
• Build strong relationships to facilitate effective communication and change management.
