Job summary

Birch, Stewart, Kolasch & Birch, LLP, a leading Washington, DC area Intellectual Property law firm, seeks an Executive Director to oversee all administrative operations in a high production environment for IP prosecution.

The Executive Director coordinates administration, human resources, accounting, finance, IT, marketing, and facilities, and reports to the Executive Committee, ensuring policies are implemented and budgets are managed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or related field required; graduate degree preferred.
• Minimum 5–7 years of accounting and reporting experience.
• CPA firm experience preferred; background in financial management and budgeting.
• Experience in an IP law firm or professional services environment is preferred.
• Solid knowledge of Excel and report writing.

Responsibilities

• Attend Executive Committee and Partnership meetings, draft agendas, publish minutes promptly.
• Direct policy formulation in financial reporting and general administration.
• Oversee supervision of non‑legal and administrative managers/staff across departments.
• Serve as liaison and provide advisory assistance to managers of legal personnel and Marketing.
• Formulate annual capital and operating budget proposals.
• Prepare and interpret management reports.
• Monitor budgets and expenditures; manage allocated resources.
• Develop reporting needs with Accounting personnel.
• Strategic planning for the firm’s administrative functions.
