Job summary

CONFIRE, JPA in California seeks a Communications Director to lead the Emergency Communications Division, overseeing strategic direction, budgeting, staffing, and operations for regional 9-1-1 and public safety communications.

You will advise executive leadership on system readiness, technology needs, and staffing, coordinating with fire, EMS, and law enforcement partners while ensuring compliant, reliable, and coordinated emergency services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field as listed.
• Seven years of progressively responsible emergency communications experience.
• Three years of management responsibility in leadership, budget oversight, or policy development.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the Emergency Communications Division.
• Provide executive-level oversight of 9-1-1 call processing and dispatch.
• Direct division activities through subordinate managers and ensure accountability.
• Oversee division budget, staffing, recruitment, and performance management.
• Coordinate with agencies and technology teams on EMS, fire, and public safety systems.
