Job summary

DeKalb County Government seeks an experienced Director, Code Compliance/Enforcement to lead the Code Enforcement Department, ensuring properties and businesses adhere to zoning, building and maintenance codes in the county.

The role is appointed by the CEO and emphasizes public education, strategic program development, and effective enforcement. The pay starts at $150,000+ and reflects education and experience; a strong leadership background is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Technology, Engineering, Architecture or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Ten years of code compliance experience with three years of management in a comparably sized organization.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license and GACE certification or ICC certification.

Responsibilities

• Directs and evaluates staff; manages schedules; conducts performance appraisals; counsels or disciplines as appropriate.
• Organizes work; assigns priorities; ensures resources and monitors progress.
• Directs code enforcement and compliance program; enforces laws and handles citizen complaints.
• Develops and implements department plans; analyzes data and updates policies and procedures.
• Advises elected officials on enforcement issues; finalizes enforcement policies.
• Manages budget; allocates staffing and equipment; monitors expenditures.
• Represent DeKalb County on code compliance issues; public relations and outreach.
