Job summary

The University of Missouri-Columbia is seeking an Executive Director who will lead Campus Dining Services, Parking and Transportation, MU Stores, Missouri Student Unions, and related services. Responsibilities

  • Maintain oversight for and inspire continuous improvement among the units for which the position is responsible.
  • Build in-depth understanding of how each unit operates to ensure alignment with university priorities.
  • Maintain working knowledge of how each unit impacts partners to maximize mutual benefit.
  • Ensure operations drive net revenues while maintaining excellent service for the campus community.
  • Collaborate with the President's office, Provost, Research, Finance, Facilities & Advancement when appropriate.
  • Participate in planning, development, analysis and implementation of projects and strategic initiatives.
  • Act as convenor for campus-wide discussions on auxiliary unit issues and opportunities.
  • Participate in policy development with the lens of auxiliary operations.
  • Handle other projects and initiatives assigned by the Vice Chancellor.

Job Description

This Executive Director is a strategic leader for multiple units that support the university in providing essential services to the campus community - Campus Dining Services, Parking and Transportation Services, University of Missouri Stores, Missouri Student Unions, A.L. Gustin Golf course, Show Me State Games and other services. This position will act as a strategic partner with various campus leaders and have responsibility for providing leadership, oversight, advice and management of these units and services. In all these units include about 185 full-time employees, 800 part-time and student employees and have operating budgets totaling over $85M.

The Executive Director will be a member of the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Business Services leadership team. In this capacity the individual will contribute to projects, processes and policies that have impact beyond the specific units and functions that report directly to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain oversight for and inspire continuous improvement among the units for which the position is responsible
  • Build in-depth understanding of how each unit operates to ensure the units are acting in concert with university priorities and are operating at a high level in their field.
  • Maintain working knowledge of how each unit has impact on various partners and collaborators to maximize mutual benefit.
  • Ensure operations drive net revenues to sustain their operations while being true to excellent service for the campus community.
  • Ensure collaboration with the President's office, Provost, Research, Finance, Facilities & Advancement when appropriate.
  • Participate in planning, development, analysis and implementation of projects and strategic initiatives.
  • Act as convenor for campus wide discussions of issues and opportunities that have impact on auxiliary units of the university.
  • Participate in policy development and review, bringing the lens of auxiliary operations to the process.
  • Other projects and initiatives assigned by the Vice Chancellor.

As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities may be expected to support the mission and priorities of the University of Missouri.

Shift

Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8am - 5pm, Central Time, with occasional weekend and evening hours.

Minimum Qualifications

A Master's degree in a relevant area and 10 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired OR a Bachelor's degree in a relevant area and 12 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

  • Demonstrated ability in strategically leading professionals and teams.
  • Ability to understand complex business and financial information and use the information to inform decision making.
  • Experience working collaboratively with leaders in other areas while maintaining the overall objective of a complex organization.
  • A track record of balancing collaboration and excellence while maintaining financial sustainability.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $175K - $225K per year

Grade: GGS EIB
