Harvard University is seeking an Executive Director for the Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI) to lead strategic planning, operations, and research administration. You will work with the Chair to advance research priorities, recruit faculty, and build a productive culture that supports education and discovery.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in computer science, biomedical informatics, data science, biological sciences, or a related field.
• A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in research administration, research operations, or a related field, including experience managing staff and supporting research activities within a complex academic or clinical environment.
• Ph.D. in related field preferred; demonstrated leadership and strategic planning experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for departmental research administration, overseeing the full portfolio of research‑related activities and ensuring alignment with academic and research priorities.
• Serve as the senior research administrative officer for the department, partnering with the Chair to develop and execute strategies.
• Lead and develop a high‑performing administrative team across multiple sub‑units and executive support functions.
• Act as trusted advisor to the Chair and faculty on research operations, education, resources, funding, personnel, technology and space.
• Advance a culture of innovation, collaboration, inclusivity, accountability and excellence across faculty and staff.
• Ensure compliance with School, University and sponsor requirements and translate policies into department practices.
