Job summary

Boston University’s Biological Design Center seeks an Executive Director to lead day-to-day operations, drive strategic growth, and promote the Center’s science globally. The role oversees shared research infrastructure, training programs, and communications, while managing finances, staff, and multi-PI grants.

The Executive Director will coordinate NIH SB2 and NSF NRT programs, organize annual symposia, and liaise with university offices and external partners.

Qualifications

  • PhD in biology, physical sciences, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of related work experience post-graduation in scientific administration, outreach, program management, or communications.
  • Experience leading a program or operation from planning to execution, e.g., training programs, seminars, or core facility operations.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing Center's Operations and Shared Research Infrastructure: manage equipment, maintenance, facilities, SOPs, and safety.
  • Managing Center's Scientific and Training Programs: coordinate NIH SB2 and NSF NRT programs, seminars, workshops, and training opportunities.
  • Public Relations, Communications, and Marketing: manage social media, website content, PR activities, and coordinate with Marketing & Communications offices.
  • Finances and Budget oversight: budgeting, reporting, invoicing, payroll, POs, A/R and A/P.
  • Supervising Administrative Staff: conduct regular meetings and establish efficient workplace practices.
  • Coordinating and Writing Multi-PI/Institution Grants: support multi-PI proposals and grants with partners.
