Harvard University’s Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI) seeks an Executive Director to lead research administration, support the Chair, and advance scholarly and educational missions at HMS. You will guide a senior administrative team, foster cross-disciplinary collaboration, and ensure compliant, efficient operations across diverse research programs.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in computer science, biomedical informatics, data science, biological sciences, or related field.
• A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in research administration, research operations, or related field, including staff management.
• Demonstrated experience managing people and organizational operations in support of research programs.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for departmental research administration aligned with academic and research priorities.
• Serve as senior research administrative officer partnering with the Chair to advance research, education, and faculty objectives.
• Lead and develop a high-performing administrative team and oversee core administrative functions.
• Advise the Chair and faculty on research operations, education activities, resources, funding, personnel, technology and space.
• Advance a culture of innovation, collaboration, inclusivity and excellence across faculty and staff.
• Oversee departmental research programs and infrastructure within varied research environments.
• Represent the department to School and University administration, ensuring needs are represented.
• Assess and manage departmental resource needs including space, funding, technology and staffing.
• Ensure compliance with School, University and sponsor requirements.
