Job summary

Harvard Medical School seeks an Executive Director for the Department of Biomedical Informatics to lead research administration and academic priorities across a dynamic, innovation-driven environment.

The role partners with the Chair to advance research, education, and faculty development, while ensuring compliance and effective collaboration with university offices and external sponsors. Strong leadership and strategic vision are essential.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in computer science, biomedical informatics, data science, biological sciences, or a related field.
• A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in research administration, research operations, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience leading strategic planning initiatives and managing teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for departmental research administration and align activities with academic priorities.
• Serve as senior research administrative officer, collaborating with the Chair to advance research and education objectives.
• Lead and develop a high-performing administrative team and oversee core administrative functions.
• Advise the Chair and faculty on research operations, resources, funding, and space.
• Advance a culture of innovation, inclusivity, and excellence across faculty and staff.
• Ensure compliance with School, University, and external sponsor requirements.
• Support faculty recruitment, appointments, and career development.
• Foster faculty-industry collaborations and partnerships with Harvard's tech development offices.
