Job summary

The Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce is seeking an Executive Director to lead a small team, work with the Board, and advance a sustainable, member-focused organization in Amherst, Massachusetts. The role balances strategic planning with hands-on management and external representation.

The ED will strengthen membership, develop revenue opportunities, manage budget and reporting, and partner with local universities, municipalities, and sponsors to enhance community business vitality.

Qualifications

• Experience leading or managing within a nonprofit, membership organization, or similar environment.
• Ability to listen, build relationships, and bring people together.
• Experience establishing priorities and turning ideas into action.
• Knowledge of Amherst area and regional economy, or ability to learn quickly.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfort representing the organization publicly.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership with the Board to establish annual priorities and measurable goals.
• Supervise and support staff, contractors, volunteers, and event/marketing staff.
• Engage members, sponsors and partners; develop revenue opportunities and sponsorship value.
• Develop and manage the budget, forecasts, and financial reporting.
• Build and maintain relationships with partners, municipalities, education institutions, and community organizations.
