Job summary

Community Food Basket - Idaho Falls is seeking a visionary Executive Director to lead operations and drive our mission to alleviate hunger across eastern Idaho.

You will partner with the Board of Directors to ensure financial health, program impact, and dignified food support, while guiding staff, fundraising, and strategic partnerships.

The role requires strategic leadership, strong governance, and hands-on operational oversight in an office, warehouse, and community setting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in nonprofit management, business administration or related field.
  • 3-5 years of senior leadership experience in nonprofit, community service or social impact sectors.
  • Proven fundraising, grant acquisition, budgeting, and board relations abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Governance: Develop and execute long-term strategic plans and maintain transparent governance with the Board.
  • Fundraising, Grants & Development: Lead major gifts, sponsorships, annual giving, and events; manage grant research, writing, and compliance.
  • Financial Management & Operations: Oversee annual budgeting, cash flow, GAAP/501(c)(3) compliance, and daily warehouse, logistics, and food safety operations.
  • Food Sourcing & Strategic Partnerships: Build relationships with regional food networks, farms, retailers, donors, and government entities.
  • Team Leadership & Administration: Recruit, mentor, and evaluate staff; ensure HR compliance; manage facilities and IT infrastructure.
  • Relations & Advocacy: Serve as spokesperson; oversee brand strategy; track KPIs for data-informed decisions.

Executive Director - Position Description

Organization: Community Food Basket - Idaho Falls

Location: Idaho Falls, ID (Office, operational, and community settings)

Reports To: Board of Directors

Compensation: Competitive, commensurate with experience

Schedule: Standard business hours; required evenings/weekends for events and board meetings

Mission Focus: The Executive Director serves as the chief executive and visionary leader of Community Food Basket - Idaho Falls. The role drives the mission to alleviate hunger and foster food security across eastern Idaho through compassionate service, strategic partnerships, and sustainable resource stewardship.

Position Summary: The Executive Director provides total strategic, operational, and administrative leadership. Partnering closely with the Board of Directors, this role ensures long-term financial health, program impact, and operational sustainability. The Executive Director is fully accountable for organizational performance, staff leadership, fundraising success, and ensuring dignified food support for individuals and families in need.

Core Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership & Governance: Develop and execute long-term strategic plans; foster a culture of accountability and innovation; maintain transparent communication with the Board regarding financials, risks, and governance.
  • Fundraising, Grants & Development: Drive revenue streams including major gifts, corporate sponsorships, annual giving, and special events; serve as chief advocate; oversee grant pipeline research, writing, and compliance.
  • Financial Management & Operations: Direct annual budgeting, fiscal controls, cash flow, and GAAP/501(c)(3) compliance; oversee daily warehouse, logistics, food distribution, inventory control, and food safety standards.
  • Food Sourcing & Strategic Partnerships: Build relationships with regional food networks, local farms, retailers, and donors to maintain robust inventory; collaborate with civic, nonprofit, and government entities.
  • Team Leadership & Administration: Recruit, mentor, and evaluate staff; maintain HR legal compliance; manage facility maintenance, security, vendor contracts, and IT infrastructure. Public
  • Relations & Advocacy: Act as primary spokesperson across media and community forums; oversee brand strategy and storytelling; track key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive data-informed decisions.
Qualifications
  • Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, or related field; 3-5 years of senior leadership experience in nonprofit, community service, or social impact sectors.
  • Key Skills: Proven track record in comprehensive fundraising, grant acquisition, multi-faceted budget management, facility/logistics oversight, and board relations; exceptional communication and public speaking skills.
  • Preferred Experience: Knowledge of food banking, hunger relief, USDA/Feeding America standards, warehouse logistics, 501(c)(3) compliance, and Eastern Idaho community networks. Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
