Job summary

The Office of the Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives in Chicago seeks an Assistant to the Speaker to support daily operations in the Bilandic Building. You will supervise the Office Assistant, handle confidential communications, and coordinate room setups for meetings and visitors.

This role requires strong organization, exceptional communication, and discretion, with close collaboration with the Chief of Staff and Directors in the Chicago Office.

Qualifications

• High school degree or equivalent, some college preferred.
• Prior experience in administrative work.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and GSuite.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Professional demeanor and the ability to adapt.
• Knowledge of state databases (Secretary of State Lobbyist Search) and ILGA.gov website; experience in state government is helpful.
• Prior experience working in the General Assembly is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Run the day-to-day operations of the Chicago Office and mirror Springfield Office needs.
• Serve as point of contact for the Speaker, greet visitors, and set up conference/committee rooms.
• Supervise the Office Assistant.
• Act as primary contact for the public and third-party organizations.
• Facilitate room reservation requests and coordinate travel vouchers.
