Position Overview
The Executive Assistant to the Provost provides high-level administrative leadership supporting the operations of the Office of the Provost and the Division of Academic Affairs. This position functions as a trusted and key liaison to the Deans and oversees the strategic planning and execution of special events and engagements for the Provost. Responsibilities include serving as secretary to the Dean’s Only and Deans Council by overseeing meeting preparation, coordination, facilitation, and the accurate documentation of all proceedings.
The Executive Assistant, in collaboration with the Special Assistant, assists in the planning and execution of Academic Affairs retreats and leadership engagements. The role prepares high quality professional correspondence, reports, and other documents as designated by the Provost and functions as the principal liaison between the Provost and the academic Deans.
Additional responsibilities include serving as the primary contact for the planning, organization, and execution of Provost level special events; initiating and processing requisitions for vendor payments, memberships, subscriptions, and event related expenditures; and acting as the Provost’s proxy for the review and approval of monthly leave reports and requests for identified direct reports. The position also serves as the primary backup to the Special Assistant to the Provost.
The Division of Academic Affairs is one of the primary administrative divisions within North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and is led by the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, who serves as the university’s chief academic officer.
Academic Affairs provides leadership and oversight for the university’s academic enterprise, including a comprehensive portfolio of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs delivered through nine colleges and additional academic units and schools. These include the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences; College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Willie A. Deese College of Business and Economics; College of Education; College of Engineering; John R. and Kathy R. Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences; College of Science and Technology; the Graduate College; and the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering, a collaborative initiative with UNC Greensboro.
In addition to the colleges, the Division of Academic Affairs oversees a broad range of academic support units and strategic initiatives that advance teaching, learning, student success, and institutional effectiveness. These include, but are not limited to, Library Services; the Office of Strategic Planning and Institutional Effectiveness; academic budget and personnel administration; Enrollment Management functions such as the Offices of the Registrar, Financial Aid, and Admissions; New Student Programs; the Center for Teaching Excellence; the Center for Academic Excellence; Distance Education and Extended Learning; the Office of International Affairs; ROTC programs; and other academic support and engagement units that contribute to the university’s academic mission.
