Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must meet paraprofessional requirements under No Child Left Behind.
• At least an associate degree or 48 semester hours of college credits.
• Complete WorkKeys assessments plus 96 contact hours of staff development.
• Preschool assistants must have an associate's degree in Early Childhood Development.
• Must become certified in a Crisis Intervention Program and renew as required.

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of technical and clerical tasks assisting a teacher of students with disabilities.
• Supports the teacher to meet student needs and provide quality instruction.
• Provides one-on-one and small-group academic and behavioral support.
• Assists with housekeeping, clerical duties, and maintenance of equipment.
• Maintains safety, monitors student behavior, and aids in crisis prevention.
• Maintains records of student progress and completes incident reports.
