Job summary

Henderson County Schools' Sugarloaf Elementary in Hendersonville, NC is seeking a Teacher Assistant Exceptional Children. The role is a 10-month, 8-hour-per-day paraprofessional supporting students with IEP-based instruction.

This position reports to the Principal, with full benefits and non-exempt status. Responsibilities include assisting with instruction, behavior management, and personal care, while maintaining medication logs as required.

Qualifications

• Highly qualified with 48 college semester hours or a 2-year Associate's Degree.
• Knowledge of special education needs and classroom practices.
• Ability to assist the teacher and manage student behavior.
• Capability to work with and support special education pupils.
• Willingness to learn new skills and be dependable.

Responsibilities

• Teaches and implements IEP goals and NCSCOS lessons and extensions.
• Performs non-academic activities such as lunch, encore, recess, etc.
• Outside classroom duties including car, bus, and hallway duties.
• Provides self-help and medical support as needed.
• Assists with the management of instruction and behavior.
• Assists with provision of individualized instruction and instructional monitoring.
• Assists teacher with preparation for instruction.
• Helps assure that students are properly supervised at all times.
• Manages behavior through approved methods, as established by teacher and IEP team.
• Helps students with personal care and hygiene needs.
• Maintains medication logs according to regulations and administer insulin shots if needed.
