Job summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is seeking an Exceptional Children Teacher Assistant (PNA) to support EC students under teacher guidance and assist with IEP goals. The role involves direct student support, supervision, and preparation of instructional materials in classrooms and school facilities.

Starting immediately, the position is an hourly, full-time 9-month assignment reporting to the Principal. Ideal candidates will have an associate degree or higher and completion of a teacher assistant

Qualifications

• Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and laws pertaining to exceptional children.
• Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needs.
• Knowledge of classroom management and differentiation techniques.
• Knowledge of the IEP process and related assessment/diagnosis concepts.
• Ability to implement local, state, and federal rules and policies in daily operations.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse teams.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all laws, policies, and procedures.
• Assist children individually or in small groups to reinforce learning.
• Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, and gymnasiums.
• Coordinate with teachers to optimize instructional efforts.
• Prepare materials and organize classroom learning spaces.
• Assist with attendance, record keeping and behavior monitoring.
• Support during field trips, buses, and emergencies.
• Provide physical assistance as needed and document progress toward IEP goals.
