Job summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools seeks an Exceptional Children teacher to implement IEP-aligned instruction with moderate supervision. You will develop lesson plans, deliver group and individual instruction, and support students toward academic goals within the school setting.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree, NC teaching license, and experience with data-driven instruction and behavioral supports. The position is full-time, 10-month schedule, based on district policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master's degree in education preferred.
  • Valid, or renewing, NC Teaching license in assigned area required.
  • Equivalent combination of experience and education.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to state, federal, and local laws and policies.
  • Collaborate with administration and educators to support EC students.
  • Follow procedures for crisis or emergencies.
  • Administer and interpret educational testing.
  • Use data to monitor progress toward academic and behavioral goals.
  • Set clear objectives and design instruction to meet goals.
  • Modify curriculum to meet IEP-based needs.
  • Promote critical, creative, and evaluative thinking.
  • Observe and assess student performance and behavior.
  • Develop and grade tests and assignments to track progress.
  • Document progress on IEP goals.
  • Create a proactive, age-appropriate classroom environment.
  • Instruct students in positive behavioral skills aligned to expectations.
  • Develop BIPs and IEPs based on function of behavior.
  • Apply positive behavior interventions to de-escalate behavior.
  • Meet with parents to discuss progress and priorities.
