Job summary

Knife River Corporation is seeking an Excavation Superintendent to oversee excavation crews across multiple job sites, ensuring safety, schedule, and budget adherence. Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in excavation or heavy civil construction, including 2+ years in a leadership/supervisory role
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
• Strong understanding of safety standards and ability to enforce them

• Identify and resolve issues that could affect the project timeline or quality
• Maintain daily reports, track job progress, and assist with change orders
• Conduct quality checks to ensure compliance with standards and specs
• Participate in project planning meetings and progress updates

Job description

The Excavation Superintendent is responsible for supervising and coordinating daily activities of excavation crews, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, along with hands‑on field knowledge of excavation processes related to grading, utilities, and paving preparation.

• Strong understanding of safety standards and ability to enforce them
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
