Job summary

Pave America is seeking an Excavation Foreman to oversee daily on-site excavation operations, manage crew members, ensure safety compliance, and keep projects on schedule and within budget.

As the primary link between project managers, field crews, and Superintendents, you will coordinate grading, trenching, and utility installations while enforcing OSHA standards and tracking progress and material deliveries.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of heavy civil construction/excavation experience.
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory or crew-lead role.
  • Proficient reading blueprints and site plans; GPS grade control experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily site operations for grading, trenching, footings, land clearing, and utilities.
  • Direct operators, pipelayers, and laborers; assign tasks and coordinate equipment maintenance.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and stakes; ensure precise cuts and fills with GPS grade control.
  • Enforce OSHA safety standards, conduct toolbox talks, manage trench shoring, and perform 811/locates before digging.
  • Maintain daily work logs, track material deliveries, monitor equipment hours, and report field updates to Project Managers.
  • Inspect completed work for compliance with project specs, soil compaction, and local codes.

Job description

As an Excavation Foreman, you will be responsible for overseeing daily on-site excavation operations, managing crew members, ensuring safety compliance, and keeping projects on schedule and within budget. You will serve as the primary link between project managers, field crews, and Superintendents. Pay negotiable depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Site Leadership: Lead and supervise daily site operations for grading, trenching, footings, land clearing, and utility installation projects.
  • Crew & Equipment Management: Direct operators, pipelayers, and laborers; assign daily tasks, monitor productivity, and coordinate heavy equipment maintenance/transportation.
  • Grade & Plan Verification: Read and interpret blueprints, site plans, stakes, and utilize GPS/laser grade control systems to ensure precise cuts and fills.
  • Safety Enforcement: Enforce OSHA safety standards, conduct daily tailgate/toolbox safety meetings, manage trench shoring, and ensure 811 / utility locates are completed before digging.
  • Progress Reporting: Maintain daily work logs, track material deliveries, monitor equipment hours, and report field updates to Project Managers.
  • Quality Control: Inspect completed work to ensure strict compliance with project specifications, soil compaction guidelines, and local codes.

Qualifications & Skills
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in heavy civil construction/excavation, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or crew lead role.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in reading blueprints, civil site plans, and grade stakes. Hands-on experience operating heavy equipment (excavators, loaders) is required.
  • Grade Control: Familiarity with GPS grade control systems (e.g., Trimble, Topcon) is highly preferred.
  • Driver’s License: Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record
  • Leadership: Strong problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and a positive team-first attitude.
Physical Requirements

  • Constantly moving about to accomplish tasks at a worksite or moving from one worksite to another
