Job description

Excavation Field Supervisor

Roto Rooter
Location: Danville, VA
Full-Time | Year-Round Employment

Base Salary: $30,000 plus uncapped commission
Expected Annual Earnings: $60,000-$85,000+ annually

Lead the Project From Customer Conversation to Field Completion

Roto Rooter is looking for an Excavation Field Supervisor who can combine strong customer relationship and sales skills with hands-on knowledge of excavation, construction, underground utilities, or related field operations.

This is not strictly a crew supervisor position. You will meet with customers, evaluate their property and project needs, develop solutions, help secure work, and then oversee the field teams responsible for completing those projects.

Your earning potential is tied to both sales performance and the successful performance of the work being completed, making this an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys taking ownership of a project from the initial customer conversation through completion.

What You’ll Do
  • Meet with residential and commercial customers to evaluate excavation, underground utility, plumbing, and property needs

  • Build relationships with customers and help identify the right solution for their project

  • Explain project recommendations, scope, pricing, and expectations in a clear and professional manner

  • Prepare or assist with estimates and proposals for excavation and related projects

  • Follow up with prospective customers and help convert opportunities into scheduled work

  • Develop relationships with contractors, builders, property managers, municipalities, and other potential referral partners

  • Coordinate sold projects with excavation crews and internal team members

  • Supervise and provide direction to field teams completing assigned projects

  • Monitor project progress, productivity, workmanship, and overall crew performance

  • Ensure crews understand project scope, customer expectations, and job requirements

  • Coordinate labor, equipment, materials, scheduling, and other field resources

  • Identify job-site challenges and help develop practical solutions

  • Monitor projects for quality, efficiency, safety, and profitability

  • Communicate with customers throughout the project and address questions or concerns

  • Identify additional customer needs or project opportunities when appropriate

  • Maintain accurate communication regarding project changes, additional work, and job progress

  • Take ownership of customer satisfaction from the initial consultation through project completion

What We’re Looking For

Qualified candidates should have:

  • Experience in excavation, underground utilities, plumbing, construction, site development, heavy civil work, or a closely related field

  • A sales-oriented mindset with the ability to identify opportunities and confidently recommend solutions

  • Ability to explain technical information in a clear, customer-friendly manner

  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to direct and hold field teams accountable

  • Understanding of job-site operations, project timelines, and construction workflow

  • Strong negotiation, follow-up, and relationship-building skills

  • Ability to balance customer expectations with operational and project requirements

  • Excellent organization and time management skills

  • Ability to manage multiple customers and active projects simultaneously

  • Self-motivation and comfort working independently in the field

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
