Job summary

City of Lake Forest Park is hiring a Part-Time Property and Evidence Technician to support the Police Department with collection, recording, safeguarding of property and evidence, and crime scene processing. Responsibilities include maintaining custody, processing fingerprints and trace evidence, and handling public records requests for officer body-worn video.

The role requires a high school diploma and relevant experience, plus successful background screening and certifications.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent and at least five years of clerical/administrative or records experience or equivalent education/experience.
• Valid Washington State Driver’s License and ability to maintain insurability with the City on hire.
• CPR, First Aid & AED certification within six months of hire.
• Pass comprehensive background investigation and drug screening.
• ACCESS certification within 30 days of hire.
• CJTC course in Property and Evidence Technician within 12 months of hire.
• Associates degree in Criminal Justice preferred.
• Prior evidence handling experience and records management preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receive, inventory, protect and store crime scene materials and evidence.
• Maintain chain of custody for property/evidence from entry to disposition.
• Transport evidence to external labs for examination.
• Handle property disposal/release including owner identification and notification.
• Purge unclaimed or illegal property per laws.
• Maintain inventory systems and reports for property/evidence.
• Answer inquiries from public and other agencies; assist with property recall and disposition.
• Maintain statistics for property/evidence intake and disposition.
• Prepare items for return, destruction, transport, or public auction.
• May testify in court on evidence handling and custody.
• Process fingerprint and trace evidence as needed at scenes.
