Job summary

City of Pearland, TX seeks a Recreation Specialist - Events to craft and oversee events, programs, and activities. You will recruit, train, manage and retain volunteers for programs and special events, working under general supervision to independently develop work methods and sequences.

The role involves coordinating site logistics, marketing, staff scheduling, safety planning, vendor coordination, sponsorships, and post‑event reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred in business administration, hospitality, liberal arts, or closely related field.
• Two years' experience recruiting/managing volunteers and event planning preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement events, programs and activities for the department.
• Coordinate site logistics, including traffic maps, work orders, layouts, meetings, safety plans, and communication/marketing plans.
• Create marketing materials and collaborate with communications for press releases and flyers.
• Schedule staff and prepare supplies for events.
• Prepare Emergency Action Plans and safety plans for each event, collaborating with citywide event logistics teams.
• Book and coordinate vendors, entertainment and equipment logistics for events; manage contracts, insurance, and procurement.
• Identify sponsorship opportunities and perform sponsorship fulfillment and reporting tasks.
• Ensure safety of participants during events.
• Gather event summary data and write post‑event reports, including attendance data, labor hours, budget, and participant evaluations.
• Review, recommend, and update divisional policies related to event safety and operations.
• Manage support teams for special events.
• Research and recommend new events and activities.
• Market, recruit & oversee volunteers for programs and special events.
• Train volunteers; create and update volunteer policies, procedures, forms and reports.
• Provide volunteer management and oversight during events and programs.
• Manage volunteer and event software and records.
• Identify, prepare, and justify annual budget requests.
• Attend and actively engage in meetings and provide accurate reports to supervisor.
