Job summary

City of Orlando seeks a Traffic Control Safety Lead to oversee street and lane closures during special events. You will coordinate crews, implement plans, and serve as the primary contact for operations and safety.

Shifts vary and mostly occur evenings, weekends, and holidays. The role requires walking and standing for long periods, with a focus on safety and professional interaction with law enforcement and the public.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent required; MOT/TTC within 3 months preferred.
• Experience in work zone traffic control is preferred but not required.
• Must be able to work nights, weekends, and overtime on short notice.
• Must be safety conscious and able to operate in street environments.
• Must have or obtain Florida MOT/TTC certification within 3 months.
• Valid Florida driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Lead setup, monitoring, and removal of temporary traffic control devices according to plans.
• Direct event traffic staff and maintain device placement throughout events.
• Act as primary contact between staff, law enforcement, and supervisors.
• Monitor conditions and staff performance; escalate and adjust as needed.
• Provide training and guidance to new staff; ensure safety compliance.
• Document activities and incidents for review by supervisors.
• Develop MOT plans quickly in response to incidents.
• Ensure MOT devices are removed and signals returned to normal after shifts.
