Qualifications

As an Event Staff I – Crowd Manager, you will play an essential role in ensuring guests feel welcomed, informed, and safe while attending concerts, athletic events, commencement ceremonies, performances, and other special events at the UCCU Center and venues across campus. This position offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment where every event is different and every interaction contributes to a positive guest experience.

This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy engaging with people, providing exceptional customer service, and contributing to a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for thousands of guests. Event Staff I – Crowd Managers gain valuable experience in event operations, crowd management, customer service, and public safety while supporting a vibrant university community. Whether assisting guests with seating, facilitating smooth venue entry, supporting accessibility accommodations, or helping maintain an organized event environment, team members serve as ambassadors for Utah Valley University and help create experiences that leave a lasting positive impression.

  • Guest Services and Patron Assistance: Provide exceptional customer service by greeting patrons, scanning or validating tickets, answering questions, and assisting guests with seating, ADA accommodations, venue amenities, and event information. Help create a welcoming, professional, and service-oriented environment for all guests, donors, visiting artists, artist management, university personnel, and members of the public.
  • Crowd Management and Safety Monitoring: Monitor guest activity and assigned public areas to support a safe, orderly, and secure event environment. Assist with crowd movement, ingress and egress, and security screenings as assigned. Identify and report safety concerns, suspicious activity, prohibited items, congestion, or behavioral issues to supervisors in accordance with venue procedures.
  • Event Operations and Area Readiness: Support event operations before, during, and after events by maintaining assigned posts, helping prepare public areas for guest use, keeping lobbies and seating areas neat and organized, and assisting with opening, event, and closing responsibilities as assigned.
  • Policy Enforcement and Incident Reporting: Assist with communicating and reinforcing venue policies, event rules, and guest expectations professionally. Observe and report guest concerns, policy violations, and routine incidents to supervisors, event security, or other appropriate personnel in accordance with venue procedures.
  • Emergency Procedures and Guest Support: Assist with emergency response actions by remaining alert, following staff direction, helping communicate instructions to guests, and supporting orderly movement during alarms, evacuations, shelter-in-place situations, or other emergency conditions.

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Six months of experience in customer service, guest services, event staffing, ushering, or a similar public-facing role.
  • Experience working in sports, entertainment, performing arts, or university event venues.
  • Experience with ticket scanning, guest screening, ADA accommodations, seating assistance, and front-of-house event operations.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to working with broad populations, including individuals of varying ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic, disability, and gender backgrounds, in a manner that supports a welcoming, engaging, and respectful environment.
  • Knowledge of basic customer service principles and front-of-house event operations in a public venue setting.
  • Knowledge of basic crowd management practices, including awareness of crowd flow, guest movement, and maintaining clear public areas.
  • Knowledge of suspicious activity, disruptive behavior, prohibited items, and other indicators that may affect the safety and security of guests, staff, or the venue.
  • Knowledge of venue policies, event rules, emergency procedures, evacuation protocols, and appropriate reporting practices.
  • Knowledge of how and when to seek assistance for ticketing issues, guest concerns, unruly patrons, medical situations, safety hazards, and other event-related incidents.
  • Knowledge of the general layout, amenities, seating areas, entrances, exits, restrooms, concessions, and public access points within the UCCU Center and other Utah Valley University event venues.

  • Ability to maintain a neat, organized, and professional event environment in lobbies, seating areas, entrances, and other public spaces.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and work evenings, weekends, holidays, and other hours based on event schedules.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a public-facing, team-oriented environment that requires flexibility, dependability, and consistent professionalism.
