Job summary

University of Utah is seeking a part-time Work Study Usher to create a welcoming environment at Kingsbury Hall for Utah Presents. You will prepare the space and ensure patrons, artists, and staff have a safe, enjoyable experience from ticket scanning to departure, following safety procedures in emergencies.

Ideal candidates exhibit strong customer service, can work independently, and may be required to stand for hours, lift up to 10 lbs., and navigate stairs.

Qualifications

  • Excellent customer service and human relations skills.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise judgment.
  • May need to stand for hours, lift 10 lbs., and walk stairs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the House Manager with event setup and teardown in the lobbies, auditorium, and exterior of the building.
  • Scan tickets to verify validity and direct attendees to their destination; resolve seating issues as needed.
  • Provide clear direction, maintain order, and prevent panic in a crisis.
  • Hand out programs and answer questions.
  • Enforce venue policies.
  • Keep the theatre property clean and debris-free.
  • May cross-train as Box Office Cashier, Concessions, Merchandise Seller, or Crossing Guard as staffing needs require.

Job Summary

Ushers create a welcoming environment for patrons to Kingsbury Halland the friendly faces of UtahPresents. They efficiently preparethe space and then ensure patrons, artists, and staff have a safeand enjoyable experience from the time their ticket are scanned, tothe safe departure from the venue. In the event of emergency,Ushers are tasked in communicating safety procedures and workingtogether to enact the safety plan.

Qualifications

Excellent customer service and human relations skills; the abilityto work independently, exercise judgment, and resolve issues. Maybe required to stand for a number of hours at a time, lift 10 lbs.,and/or walk up and down stairs multiple times.

Minimum Qualifications

EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Department may hire employee at one of the following joblevels:

Event Support Specialist, I

Requires little to no related experience.

Preferences

No experience required.

Previous experience in crowd management or ushering a plus.
