Job summary

Job Summary/Basic Function

This position is to administer, support, and manage transportation operations and/or event parking on campus, including off-site facilities. This position requires being on-site and is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Campus Security Authority

This position is identified as a "Campus Security Authority (CSA)" per the federal law known as the Clery Act. Per this law, the employee is required to report any crimes that he/she becomes aware of to the Clery Compliance Officer. Additionally, CSAs are required to complete annual training prescribed by the Clery Compliance Officer.

Department Overview

Boise State University's Department of Public Safety is responsible for more than "people safety." In addition to university Security, our team includes the university's Emergency Management Department, Transportation (Shuttle buses and the Cycle Learning Center) and Parking, and Integrated Security Technology. Level Scope

Provides direct supervision typically to professionals or skilled technical employees at the entry or intermediate level. Functions as advisor to unit and administration and sets goals and objectives for team members for achievement of operational results. Analyzes and resolves problems through drawing from prior experiences. Interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts and grants, resource management in defined areas) and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of campus resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives.

Essential Functions
  • Provides leadership and management of the Event Parking team under the supervision of the Associate Director of Parking Operations, including hiring, discipline, and termination of personnel.
  • Manages employee scheduling, work assignments, communication, and personnel development; evaluates performance, provides regular feedback, and conducts annual reviews.
  • Monitors work activities for policy/procedure compliance and recommends improvements to standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Manages the Event Parking program and operations for the Boise State campus and off-site locations, including direct participation during events.
  • Manages and directs event staff, including three full-time direct reports and up to 80-90 student employees; coordinates event parking operations between contracted police services and university security, where errors could disrupt campus security.
  • Makes decisions on event operations related to personal safety and asset protection; consequences of error may include injury claims, lawsuits, or loss of University assets.
  • Designs and delivers staff training, including job orientation, ongoing training, and asset-protection programs, to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Leads development of new programs, policies, and special assignments related to event parking operations.
  • Oversees the Event Parking budget: submits recommendations, modifies expenditures, reviews unit budget needs, orders resources within limits, and coordinates with Finance to ensure compliance with state and university fiscal policy.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with University departments, students, employees, visitors, and the surrounding community; maintains working relationships with federal, state, and local public safety agencies, contracted police, and private security firms.
  • Maintains reporting and supervisory relationships within the Department of Public Safety chain of command, and service relationships with the broader University community (deans, department heads, faculty, staff, students).
  • Serves on cross-functional assignments on or off campus as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of experience or equivalent.
  • A valid Driver's License.
Salary and Benefits

Salary range is $60,673.60 to $68,000 annually and is commensurate with experience.

  • 12 paid holidays AND the University is closed between Christmas and New Year's (requires use of 3 vacation days)
  • Between 12-24 annual paid vacation days for full-time Professional and Classified staff depending on position type and years of service
  • 10.76% University contribution to your ORP retirement fund (Professional and Faculty employees)
  • 11.96% University contribution to your PERSI retirement fund (Classified employees)
