Qualifications

  • Computer competency.
  • Basic knowledge of how to set up and operate DVD, LCD projector, and sound equipment.
  • Capable of heavy physical work.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and move equipment and fixtures.

Responsibilities

  • Act as liaison with General Services Administration and building tenants to ensure events run smoothly.
  • Oversee client and vendor activities during events and load-out periods.
  • Ensure protection of the museum by conducting pre- and post-event inspections and reporting damages.
  • Coordinate with staff for internal program and event setup and breakdown.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Today, the National Building Museum transforms understanding of the history and impact of architecture, engineering, landscape architecture, and design. Through exhibitions, educational programs, and special events, we welcome all ages to experience stories about the built world and its power to shape our lives, communities, and futures.

Position Description

This position provides logistical support to Events and other operations departments of the Museum during the evening and overnight hours. These activities include setting up and breaking down tables and chairs, overseeing vendor and client activities during evening event hours, protecting the museum's physical assets, and loading dock management. The position is part time and compensation for hours worked from 12am-6 am will be paid an overnight differential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Act as liaison with the General Services Administration, and all other building tenants including the building engineers and security guards to ensure Museum events run smoothly.
  • Oversee all client and vendor activities throughout the event, and load-out periods to ensure museum and building procedures are consistently followed.
  • Ensure the protection of the National Building Museum and building by conducting thorough pre-and post-event inspections, and reporting damages to Operations staff for billing and repairs.
  • Coordinate with NBM staff for internal program and event setup, break-down, and logistical coordination.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • This position supports events and programs, which is not a standard schedule. The successful candidate is required to have late afternoon, evening, late evening, and weekend availability. Special consideration will be given to applicants who can work early (6:00 am) for load in and late night (after midnight) for load out.

ADA Specifications

This position does require the ability to move about the building continuously during the shift and to different floors in order to effectively oversee the set up and break down of events and vendors. Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds and frequently push, pull and move equipment and fixtures.
